Off to German... finally!
After a summer of preparing - packing up my belongings in Portland, organizing and storing them in Walla Walla, and getting all my affairs in order - I finally started my journey to Berlin.
Goodbyes are hard, but a year isn't that long!
Pasco > Seattle > Frankfurt > Berlin
I started my journey in Pasco, WA where I could share a quiet latte with my parents before boarding my flight. Getting to SeaTac was a breeze, but then I had a layover to wait out before I could even check in to my next flight and get rid of my heavy bag to go through security. Most of the sitting areas were crammed with people, but I remembered that there was a quiet corner in SeaTac from my college days. So I headed to the far end of the building and just as I remembered there were tons of empty tables and chairs to post up in. Sweet little birds were flying around hoping I'd drop a little morsel for them. My layover flew by and I was off again headed for Frankfurt!
In Frankfurt Airport I hopped in a train to get to the right terminal. So efficient! Fun little fact: they call their airport "Fraport".
Once in Frankfurt, I had a pretty tight connection to Berlin, so I couldn't explore much before boarding my flight to Berlin. I was lucky enough to have family there waiting for me - thank you to the Gerlitz Family for greeting my so warmly, and hosting my in their lovely home!
This morning I awoke naturally at about 6:30 am. I credit my good night's sleep to a good 'ol sleeping pill. I was greeted this morning by family for a delicious breakfast where we talked about local politics, what there is to do and see in Berlin this week, and caught up with all the cousins. Feeling very welcomed and at home already!
Signing off now to go explore the Gerlitz's garden, and maybe even take a dip in the pool! Jetlag be damned!
